This hand made, bronze sculpture is a one-of-a-kind statue, hand cast by the artists of south India.
About Annapurna: In the Saivite tradition Annapurna is the Hindu goddess of food and cooking. She is the goddess who holds in one hand a jeweled vessel containing food and in the other a spoon to distribute the food among her devotees. She has the power to distribute food to an unlimited amount of people. Annapurna literally means "one who is full of food."
Annapurna is an incarnation of Parvati.
She is often seen giving food to her husband, Shiva. Shiva is seen begging
with a skull begging bowl as Annapurna doles out food to her lover. In south India you often find images of
Annapurna anywhere people eat.
About the Golden Polish:
This bronze sculpture has been polished after casting giving it a golden shine.
Polished bronze pieces are often used in temples. Temples prefer the
polished bronze icons because the rituals involved in puja often involve bathing
the bronze deity, which naturally removes the bronze patina of an older piece.
Over time and with no periodic care the golden polish will naturally dull to
form a dark patina that is naturally found on aged bronze.
