This wood sculpture is hand carved by the artists of Northern Thailand.
Special Features: This piece is carved from teak wood. Teak wood is prized for its hardness and beautiful veins. This pose of the Buddha is commonly called the Reclining Buddha, Laying Buddha or the Dying Buddha. The Buddha is shown leaving his physical form and passing into nirvana. The Buddha is depicted dying peacefully as he has understood that physical death is merely a transition to a transcendental state. His physical body has been released from the endless cycle of rebirth. His long slender body is clothed in a natural brown Buddhist robe. His left hand is long and slender and rests upon his curved hip.
