This hand made, bronze sculpture is a one-of-a-kind statue, hand cast by the artists of south India.
Special Features: Devi has many different names depending on where in India she is worshipped. In Madurai she is referred to as Meenakshi, in Chidambaram Shivakami, in Kanchipuram she is revered as Kamatchi and in Kerala she is Known as the Goddess Rajarajeswari. In each city her likeness takes on different aspects as you can see by the variety of poses of Devi. As Meenakshi she stands holding a parrot. As Shivakami standing next to the Nataraja figure and sitting with sugarcane and parrot she is known as Kamatchi. As seen here she is known as Kamatchi.
About the Golden Polish: This bronze sculpture has been polished after casting giving it a golden shine. Polished bronze pieces are often used in temples. Temples prefer the polished bronze icons because the rituals involved in puja often involve bathing the bronze deity, which naturally removes the bronze patina of an older piece. Over time and with no periodic care the golden polish will naturally dull to form a dark patina that is naturally found on aged bronze.
