This hand made, bronze sculpture is a one-of-a-kind statue, hand cast by the artists of south India.

Special features:  This statue depicts the synthesis of both Krishna and Vishnu into one form.  Venugopal has 4 arms two of which play the flute.  The flute is an attribute mainly associated with Krishna.  Venugopal's other two hands hold a discus and a conch two symbols associated with Vishnu.  The conch represents "Om", the first sound of creation and also the beginning of matter, since sound and matter are consider to be synonymous.  The discus is thought to represent the sun.  Vishnu, like Shiva, was originally a minor deity with only five out to 1,028 hymns in the Rig Veda addressed to him.  He seems to have been derived from a  solar deity.  The discus is a vestige of his solar origins.

About the Golden Polish:  This bronze sculpture has been polished after casting giving it a golden shine.  Polished bronze pieces are often used in temples.  Temples prefer the polished bronze icons because the rituals involved in puja often involve bathing the bronze deity, which naturally removes the bronze patina of an older piece.  Over time and with no periodic care the golden polish will naturally dull to form a dark patina that is naturally found on aged bronze.

Care:  Regular dusting should keep the piece clean.  Over the years the golden polish will fade.  In order to keep the piece shiny you can use a cotton rag and some coconut oil to regularly clean the piece.  You can also use lemon or tamarind juice to wipe the piece down.  The acid from the lemon/tamarind removes any patina.

Shipping is automatically calculated by UPS for shipping within the US and Canada.  Each piece is usually shipped within 24 hours of the order with the exception of the weekend.   If you are in Canada please select "UPS Standard to Canada" for the shipping option.  If you are an international customer please select "TNT International Shipping" during checkout.  The shipping will come out as $0 and will be added to your order.  Please call 203-629-0902 or email us info@lotussculpture.com for a shipping quote.
