This colored red marble statue is a one of a kind sculpture, hand carved by the artists of south India. 

Special Features:  This sculpture is unique in that it has depicts Durga and Shiva in one form.  Usually Shiva shares a form of Devi peaceful aspect Parvati in Ardhanari.  In this form Durga and Shiva seem full of power and energy.  They are leaping over a rock with their ten arms spread out displaying their omnipotence.  On the rock are a Nandi, Lion and crescent moon.  Shiva holds in His hands a cobra, flower and trident while Durga holds a gada or mace, shield and bell.  Behind their serene face is a superb halo.  A fantastic piece!

A note on the artist: The artist is a very special contemporary artist with a very unique style.  He takes classical figures and motifs and molds them together.  What is produced is completely unique sculpture that rips down the barriers of classical south Indian sculpture.  He is a contemporary force that is taking modern Indian sculpture to a new level.

About Gorora Stone:  Gorora stone or Red marble is a wonderful stone for sculpture because of its wide color range.  It is rarer than most soft stones and must be shipped into Tamil Nadu from Uttar Pradesh in the north.  The stone has wonderful cream/yellow/green veins in it contrasting to the beautiful deep red to sometimes pink natural coloration of the stone.  The stone is extremely glossy.  When a red marble statue is polished it has a disarming shimmer. 

Care:  The piece is for indoor use only.  Dust the piece as needed using a cotton piece of cloth.  You can really make the surface and color of the statue shine if you use a cloth to buff the surface.
