This granite Garden statue is a one of a kind sculpture, hand carved by the artists of south India using a hammer and chisel.

I extol Dakshinamurthy, the handsome youth who has transmitted the truth of Parabrahm by silent speech; who is surrounded by a host of venerable sages as disciples, all absorbed and established in meditation upon Brahman; who is the Supreme Teacher; who displays the sacred sign of fusion of the soul with the Absolute -- the joining of forefinger and thumb -- the paragon of bliss; who has a resplendent face replete with the rapture of the Self-Existent.

Special Features:  A colossal piece!  This massive depiction of the south facing Lord is inspiring.  To sit at Shiva's feet and look up at Him forces deep inner contemplation.

The iconic representation of Dakshinamurthy represents Shiva, seated under a banyan tree in silence inspiring the Sanakaadi rishis.  Dakshinamurthy is portrayed as being in the yogic state of abstract meditation and as a powerful form brimming with ever flowing bliss and supreme joy.   The fifth day of the week, Thursday is associated with the planet Jupiter and is referred to as Guru-Vaaram. It is on Thursdays that special worship services are offered to Dakshinamurthy in many Saivite temples. Some temple traditions hold full moon nights, particularly the night of the Guru Poornima as the appropriate time for worship services to Dakshinamurthy.

About Black Granite:  Indian black granite is a wonderful stone.  It is capable of a variety of finishes which can give it a variety of different color possibilities.  It is possible to see 4-5 different colors on a single piece depending on the degree of polish or roughness of the stone.  Indian black granite is among the best granite in the world sought after by artists globally.  Unlike inferior quality granite, Indian granite is extremely dense and without impurities that plague other stones.  The density of granite makes a granite sculpture perfect for any garden because it can be left outside in extreme heat and extreme cold for years without any ill effects to the piece.

Care: Wash the piece with soap and water to prevent dirt build up.
