This colored  marble statue is a one of a kind sculpture, hand carved by the artists of south India.

Special Features:  Patanjali has four arms.  Two are held together in a wai position.  The other two hold a conch and a discus, two symbols usually associated with Vishnu.  The lower portion of His body is engulfed in the coils of a serpent.  A serpent looms protectively over the head of Patanjali.  Patanjali is said to have been born as a small snake is also said to be an incarnation of Adi S'esha who is the first ego-expansion of Vishnu, Sankarshana.

About Patanjali:  Often called “the father of yoga,” Patanjali was the sage who codified his thoughts and knowledge of yoga in The Yoga Sutra of Patanjali. In this work, Patanjali compiled 195 sutras or concise aphorisms that are essentially an ethical blueprint for living a moral life and incorporating the science of yoga into your life. Although no one is sure of the exact time when Patanjali lived and wrote down his sutras, it is estimated this humble physician who became one of the world’s greatest sages roamed India somewhere between 200 B.C. and 200 A.D.
