This colored marble
statue is a one of a kind sculpture, hand carved by the
artists of south India. Lotus Sculpture is proud to be
the only gallery offering statues in sange-rathek stone.
Special Features: Shiva is dancing His dance of
destruction on Apasmara the dwarf. The dwarf
symbolizes ignorance in the world that Shiva
symbolically stamps out. The dwarfs holds a long
knife and has long flowing hair that is unusual for
Apasmara. Shiva has ten arms that hold a variety
of weapons including a trident. Above Shiva's head
looms a large,
5-headed cobra.
The cobra
symbolizes the power Shiva has over the most deadly of
creatures. Snakes are also used to symbolize the Hindu
dogma of reincarnation. Their natural process of molting
or shedding their skin is symbolic of the human souls
transmigration of bodies from one life to another.
Parvati,
Shiva's wife is standing by his side holding a lotus
flower. Also by Shiva's side is
Nandikeshvar, Shiva's
white bull, Nandi, in human form who stands playing
a drum. There
is a Narsi carved in the base of the figure. This
is an extremely detailed and elaborate sculpture.
Every
time viewed, a new feature reveals itself!
