This hand made, bronze sculpture is a one-of-a-kind statue, hand cast by the artists of south India.
O
Krishna,
how we adore You;
Our hearts soar to You above.
Fill us with Your loving mercy;
Grant us Your eternal love.
Special Features: Krishna is the eighth incarnation or avatar of Lord Vishnu. Krishna is famous for playing the flute. His flute playing would beguile the cow herder's daughters whom were all in love with Krishna. Krishna, besides being a hero and central figure of Bhagavad-Gita, was seen as an affirmation of life. He loved life and lived his time on this earth to the fullest. The flute he plays is decorated with a yali head on the end of it. A yali is a mythical beast that is a cross between a lion, an elephant and an alligator. Behind his left ear there are three peacock feathers. In India peacocks are considered inauspicious. When Krishna heard that, he just picked up the peacock feathers and placed them in His crown.
The Krishna was cast in the Hoysala style originated in Halebid, India. The style is very ornate as you can plainly see from the abundance of jewelry and other ornaments that cover the entire piece. The fine details are especially beautiful carvings in his headdress, leggings and the fine jeweled necklace that hangs off his body around his neck.
