Special Features: A divine statue of Parvati lovingly caring for Her two children Ganesh and Kartikeya or Murugan. The small form of Murugan is standing to Parvati's right holding a vel which symbolizes intellect. Parvati's hand is lovingly spurring Murugan on from behind. Little Ganesh is firmly seated on his mother's abundant hip. His right arm is on Parvati's shoulder steadying him while his other hand holds a ball of rice. The diminutive size of Ganesh is a huge departure from Ganesha's usual vast size. Ganesh is adorable! Parvati, like all mother's, is the rock of Her two sons and is the centerpiece of the statue. She embodies the Mother Devi with Her large breasts and full hips.
The
story behind the Pose of the Sculpture:
“Shiva asked his two sons, Kartikeya
(Murugan) and Ganesh to circle the world and
return. Kartikeya hurried off on his
peacock but Ganesh simply walked around
Shiva and Parvati. He explained that for
him, his parents constituted the world.
Shiva granted him a boon, saying that before
undertaking any important task people would
pray to Ganesh.”
