This wood sculpture is a one of a kind statue, hand carved by the artists of south India.
Special Features: Shiva is seated with two of his hands in the abhaya mudra or "no fear" posture as His palms are completely open. In his other two hands he holds an axe and an antelope or a deer. In some Shiva sculptures the deer and the axe are in reversed hands. Above Shiva's head looms Mahakala or "great time" who in the end devours everything. He is seated on a double lotus base. The painting scheme is adopted from the bright colors used in south Indian temples. The temples are known for their large gopurams or towers that rise up into the sky decorated with various gods and goddesses. The gopurams are painted in vibrant colors which mirror the vibrant life of south India.
Care: Dust the piece as needed. You can use a wood cleaner to really make it shine. Mainly for indoor use.
