This wood sculpture is hand carved from a large tree by the artists of Northern Thailand.

The Buddha's size would make it perfect for a meditation room, home shrine or temple.

Special Features:  This piece is an extremely large wood carving of the Buddha.  As with most Buddha sculpture the focal point of the piece is the face.  The Buddha's face positively radiates!  He has a slight smile curling on his lips..  The large, beautiful golden flame radiating from the top of the Buddha's head contrasts the deep antique coloration of the body.  The body is carved from one large tree with the only separate piece being the removable flame on top of his head.  The Buddha has gold leaf on his body.

The Buddha is sitting in the Earth Touching, Calling the Earth to Witness, or The victory over (Subduing) Mara position.  He sits with folded legs (right on top of the left).  The left hand is held in his lap with the palm facing upward.  The right hand extends over the right thigh, near the knee, with the fingers pointing towards the ground, palm inward.  During meditation, Siddartha was subjected to many temptations but none as terrible as those posed by the evil Mara, who bombards him with his demon armies, monsters, beasts and violent storms and his three lascivious daughters.  The Buddha remains steadfast.  Then to testify to Mara of his meritorious past, he points to the earth with his hand and calls forth Thorani, the beautiful earth goddess.  She rises from the ground and wrings the water from her long, black hair, which raises a torrential flood that drowns Mara and his army of demons.

This quality product is entirely Hand-crafted and painted by the rural villages of northern Thailand.  They use the ancient Lanna techniques, that have been handed down from generation to generation, since the early days of the Kingdom of Lanna to create this item.  Every piece is therefore , truly unique in its own accord, design and carving.
