Special Features:  This statue is of Mahalakshmi, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity. As you can see, she has four hands; two hands at the rear and two hands in the front. She holds lotus in each of her rear hands. Her front left hand is spread out downwards. Coins are pouring out from her front right hand. She is seen sitting on a lotus with her left leg folded and right leg put down in a sitting position.

Her four hands represent the four directions and signifies her omnipresence and omnipotence. It also indicates the four ends of human life: i.e. Dharma (righteousness), Kama (pleasure of flesh and genuine desires), Artha (wealth), and Moksha (freedom from re-birth). Wealth and prosperity being the activities of physical world, is represented by the forehands and the backhands stands for the spirituality in the eternal world.

The lotus in her back right hand suggest that one must perform the duties in this world according to Dharma. While the lotus in her back left hand point towards attaining Moksha by performing righteous deeds. The front left hand is spread out which symbolizes the absorption of energy from nature and conversion of the same into wealth. The gold coins pouring out from her front right hand shows her generosity to flood her devotees with wealth, fame and prosperity.

The left side and right side of the body indicates worldly activity and spiritual activity respectively. The folded left leg symbolizes the control on the material desires and the unfolded right leg gives an advice to focus on the spiritual dimensions, so that wisdom and purity of mind can be achieved.

Goddess Lakshmi is seen sitting on a lotus. Lotus, lies on water and it never gets wet. Likewise one must not get carried away with the worldly pleasures and must train the mind to overcome all desires so that Moksha can be attained.

The painting scheme is adopted from the bright colors used in south Indian temples.  The temples are known for their large gopurams or towers that rise up into the sky decorated with various gods and goddesses.  The gopurams are painted in vibrant colors which mirror the vibrant life of south India.
